Collapsible Designs for Dynamic Data Representation

Over the past few weeks, I have been conducting a fairly loose exploration of origami patterns that permit collapsible movement. The collapsible factor was important as I want my designs to be capable of dynamically adjusting to different data points or sets. Through this exploration, three designs have emerged as being potentially useful for supporting dynamic data changes – namely, V-Pleats, 3D Accordions and Accordion Boxes. I should note that these are not the official titles of each of these patterns, nor commonly used one. Rather, each of these patterns does not seem to have a generally agreed-upon name, but are called different names by the various sources from which they were taken. However, I felt it necessary to assign a title to each pattern for my own use. Below are images of each of the three patterns I am currently exploring.

The next task I undertook as part of this design exploration was to investigate the different parameters for change that each design could support. In other words, what elements of each patterns can I vary in order to encode data? Through an investigation of these parameters, it became apparent that each variable could be divided into one of two categories: dynamic or static. Either the variable could be selected once and not changed again (such as the colour of the paper used) or it could be altered even after the pattern was completed (such as the extended length of the design). Each of these variables is listed below, along with its categorisation as either static or dynamic.
